'Tattoo You' was originally released on August 24, 1981 by Rolling Stones Records. It is the 16th British and 18th American studio Album of the English Rock legends.

The nine songs on the record are mostly studio outtakes recorded in the 1970s. Keith Richards said, 'The thing about 'Tattoo You' was not that we had stopped writing new stuff, it was a matter of time. We agreed that we wanted to go on tour and we wanted to tour behind a record. We didn't have time to record a whole new Album and start the tour.'

'Start Me Up,' one of the most well-known Stones songs ever, is also featured on 'Tattoo You.' It reached number two on the US Billboard Singles Charts. The Album reached number one on the charts in the US, number two in the UK, and number three in Germany.

For the new 40th Anniversary Editions, the Album has been completely remastered and expanded. It also includes a few unreleased tracks.
